A new long period swell is coming this afternoon, bringing sneaker waves and high tides, and big tidal swings through tomorrow along the Mendocino coast. Sneaker waves can move across the beach without warning, sweeping people into the sea from rocks, jetties and beaches, carrying large objects capable of crushing anyone caught underneath.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office will have new headquarters in north Lakeport next to the county jail, thanks to federal money from the recent 2023 government funding bill. Yesterday, Congressman Mike Thompson presented a check for $2 million to the city of Clearlake for the Clearlake Burns Valley Sports Complex and Recreation Center project. The money comes from the Fiscal Year 2023 government funding bill.
The Lake Local Area Formation Commission voted unanimously on Tuesday to stop the city of Lakeport’s South Lakeport annexation, since it failed to receive a majority vote in the November election. LAFCo will have to wait a year to resubmit.
