A Mendocino County Superior Court jury found 60 year old Timmy Kent Cooper, formerly of Ukiah, guilty in less than thirty minutes of felony assault with a chain. Late yesterday, advancing winter weather and high winds caused PG&E to report power outages in Caspar, Mendocino, Little River, Philo, Boonville, Yorkville and Fort Bragg. PG&E has been working on restoration, more power outages can be expected due to high winds in the area. Resident are advised to be prepared.
Lakeport Police have identified the pedestrian killed on Sunday evening. Craig Gunther of Lakeport was hit early evening on Sunday on 11th Street near North Street. The driver of the vehicle has not been identified, it is thought they were driving in an unsafe manner. Investigation into the accident continues.
A high surf advisory is in effect for the Mendocino Coast through late today. Breaking waves of 20-24 feet can be expected. Surfing and beachcombing are highly discouraged. The demolition of the old Howard Hospital in Willits is finished and the site is now being cleared. The over 100-year-old building started being torn down at the first of the year. The city of Willits is considering rezoning the property for mixed residential and commercial use.
