The California Highway Patrol has announced that a holiday enforcement saturation period will begin at 6 pm this evening and run through the 4th. Last year there were 44 people killed in traffic accidents during the holiday and CHP made nearly 1,000 arrests for driving under the influence throughout the 78-hour enforcement effort.
A reminder that fireworks are illegal in all of Lake County, except in the city of Lakeport and in all of Mendocino County. In Lakeport, only safe and sane fireworks are allowed. There are a number of fireworks shows available in both counties. City and county social media have guidelines regarding the rules about fireworks.
