Name of Man in Fatal Lake County Crash Released

The man who died in a single-vehicle crash on Monday has been identified as 33-year-old Claud Alexander Walker, of Willits. The Lake County Sheriff’s Office says Walker was reportedly driving at a high rate of speed on Highway 20 before his vehicle went off the road and struck two trees, sparking a small vegetation fire.

Mendocino National Forest Reopens

Mendocino National Forest has reopened to the public. The U.S. Forest Service closed Mendocino, along with 12 of the other 18 national forests in the state for two weeks, due to high fire risk and a shortage of firefighting resources.

Ukiah High School Evacuated After Vegetation Fire Breaks Out

The Ukiah High School campus was evacuated yesterday afternoon after a vegetation fire broke out about a mile west of the school. According to CalF ire Mendonico Unit, the Gap Fire Incident, in the area of the 1500 block of Low Gap Road, was contained to 3 acres with two additional small spots.
