Lakeport Woman Pleads Not Guilty in Murder of Boyfriend

A Lakeport woman accused of murder has pleaded not guilty. TheLakeCountyNews reports Melinda Mildred Fred is accused of fatally stabbing Christopher Aaron Burrows earlier in the month. Fred is charged with murder, assault with a deadly weapon, and domestic violence. Her bail is set at $1 million. A preliminary hearing has not yet been scheduled.

Interim Chancellor of Yuba Community College to Retire

After more than 40 years in higher education, the interim chancellor of Yuba Community College is retiring as of the end of the month. TheLakeCountyNews reports Dr. James Houpis, Ph.D. had been interim chancellor since 2021, helping launch many initiatives at the institution. The district’s new chancellor, Shouan Pan, Ph.D.,will take over on June 15.

Mendocino County Museum Awarded Half Million Dollar Donation

The Mendocino County Museum has been awarded a general operation donation of $500,000 from the William L. Bittenbender Trust.
