CAL FIRE Mendocino Unit Prescribed Burn

The CAL FIRE Mendocino Unit will be conducting a prescribed burn on state owned property at Howard Forest today and tomorrow. Burning will be conducted each day, between 10 AM until approximately 4:30 PM. This burn is to promote natural regeneration, enhance wildlife habitat, protect watershed values, and to provide training for fire personnel.

Motorcyclist Dies in Collision with Semi

Progress Made on Small Wildfire in Potter Valley

Fire crews made good progress yesterday on a small wildfire burning in a wooded area east of Potter Valley near the county line with Lake County. Cal Fire and the Potter Valley Volunteer Fire Department have been working the fire with assistance from air resources, including tankers and a helicopter.

Mendocino Fire Safe Council received $60,000 from PG&E. The Mendocino County FSC will use the funds to expand its chipping program. The free community chipper days help communities, homeowner’s associations, fire departments, and individual landowners with vegetation-fuel reduction to reduce wildfire hazards.
