FEMA has proposed updated flood maps for Mendocino County and Ukiah. These updated maps greatly expand upon the existing floodplain areas, likely increasing the insurance requirements for residents of these areas.
Senate Majority Leader Mike McGuire has introduced a new bill to give prosecutors the ability to pursue tougher sentences for cases of aggravated arson. The LakeCountyNews reports McGuire’s office pointed to damaging arson fires in Lake County and other parts of the state as the motivation for SB 281.

Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Strongest winds will occur across exposed ridges and coastal headlands.
The California Transportation Commission recently allocated more than $988 million to repair and improve transportation throughout the state. Those projects include roadway improvements, removal of hazardous trees, and maintenance in Lake and Mendocino Counties totaling just over $60 million.
Starting Tuesday, the Mendocino Council of Governments will hold virtual community workshops for Covelo, Laytonville, Brooktrails, Potter Valley, and Hopland to present findings from the MCOG’s current study of transportation needs and solutions. Cal Fire has extended the public comment period regarding the draft fire hazard severity zone map. Cal Fire’s new draft map shows that the areas in Lake County ranked as “very high” have increased by 31.5%. The public comment period will now run through April 4th.
