Round Valley Indian Tribal Council Declares State of Emergency on Reservation

After two murders in two weeks, the Round Valley Indian Tribal Council declared a state of emergency on the reservation after a closed meeting on Sunday night. KZYX reports that declaration came a day after the body of 16 year old Ruby Sky Montelongo was found in a field and two weeks after Nicholas Shehli Whipple was found beaten and shot to death. Round Valley Indian Tribal President Randall Britton says the tribe is looking for outreach and help from local, state and federal agencies to help with the violence. A curfew as well as the decision to close the tribal liquor store early has been enacted.
