Public Health Issues Statement on Monkeypox

Local public health officials have released a statement regarding monkeypox. Without saying whether there were any cases in Mendocino County, the statement said there were more than 400 cases confirmed in the state since May. The department said the risk from monkeypox to the general population is low due to the way it is transmitted. However, Dr. Andy Coren said that there are vaccines available which should be given as soon after exposure as possible, so if one suspects they’ve been exposed, they should contact their medical provider.
