Lake County Schools Super Calls for Special Election

The Lake County Office of Education has determined that enough valid signatures have been submitted by the registered voters of the Middletown Unified School District to require a special election to terminate the provisional appointment of Annette Lee and to fill her board seat. A petition to terminate Lee’s appointment and initiate a special election was filed with LCOE on December 30 by LaTrease Walker, whose seat Lee was appointed to fill, and Hidden Valley Lake residents Austin Pullman and Charles Green. The cost of the special election is expected to be at least $50,000. Registrar of Voters Maria Valadez said that cost could be reduced by as much as half if the special election is consolidated with the upcoming primary. Superintendent of Schools Brock Falkenburg submitted a resolution to the Lake County Board of supervisors calling for the special election to be held on June 7 and said he would make every effort to reduce the cost of that election. Its expected the board will take action in the next few weeks.
