State Looks to Pay Off Unpaid Utility Bills

Do you have unpaid utility bills? The state wants to cover your debt to avoid shutoffs. Lawmakers have agreed to pay off $2 billion of Californians’ utilities debt, but haven’t extended the shutoff moratorium past September 30th. It’s estimated the total of unpaid water and energy bills accumulated during the pandemic is about $2.7 billion.
