The Lakeport City Council set a public hearing date for a utility rate increase during yesterday’s meeting. If approved, the gradual increases for water and sewer rates would take place over the next five years, starting November 1, 2021. The public hearing is set for October 19th, during the regular Tuesday City Council meeting.

Forward progress on the Bell Fire east of Leggett was stopped at 50 acres. The fire, that started early Saturday morning, caused an evacuation order to be issued for the Foster Creek Road/Bell Springs Road area. Those evacuation orders have since been lifted. The fire is 65-percent contained.
