Gas Station Owner in Mendocino and Lake Counties to Pay Sizeable Fines

The owner of gas stations at locations in Mendocino and Lake Counties as well others has been ordered to pay $500,000 in penalties for failing to follow several critical protocols regarding their gas station operations. Mahmoud Alam and Faizan Corporation must pay $327,000.00 in civil penalties and $123,000.00 in investigative and enforcement costs.

Mondfrans Appinted New Chief Probation Officer

Lake County has a new chief probation officer. Wendy Mondfrans has been interim probation officer since Rob Howe left the position to become Sheriff. Mondfrans has worked for the probation department since 2010, holding several positions within the department.

States Attorney Gives Guenoc Valley Development Go-Ahead

The States Attorney General’s Office has dropped its objections to the Guenoc Valley Resort and residential project, after developers made concessions regarding wildfire risk, evacuation safety and greenhouse gas emissions. The luxury destination resort is slated to be built on 25 square miles of fire prone land east of Middletown.

Drone Used to Find Suspect, Subdue and Capture Him

Drone technology was used by Mendocino County Sheriff’s officers to disarm and capture a man reportedly armed with a rifle in Ukiah. Deputies were able to locate and communicate one way with the man, who laid the weapon down and the situation was resolved peacefully.
