The Lake County Board of Supervisors at their meeting at the beginning of the week approved a three-month contract extension to Sunrise Special Services Foundation to continue to operate the emergency shelter in Lakeport. A structure fire in Point Arena was reported as being a two alarm fire last night. The home on Windy Hollow Road was evacuated. At last report at least one home was destroyed and another threatened. Point Arena as well as other departments were called in to assist.
A fire now being called the Ryan Fire North of Willits near Ryan Creek Road burned about three acres, and fire retardant dropped by air response helped slow its progress. As of early last evening, the incident commander released resources from the blaze as flames were diminishing.
The Clear Lake Area office of the Highway Patrol has a new officer. Patrol Officer Cameron Ramsey is from Redwood Valley and the son of a CHP officer who works in the Ukiah Area office. Lake County’s unemployment rate was down slightly for last month at 5.5%, down from 5.6% in May and 4.6% in June 2022.
