The Lakeport Unified School District Board will hold a special meeting today at 6 to discuss a proposal to lay off nine full-time positions and discontinue seven classified staff positions. There will be a closed session to discuss an issue with an employee before the special meeting.

A Lakeport man struck by a hit-and-run driver last month has died. Omar Romero of Lakeport has died due to injuries received when he was struck on the night of February 14th by an SUV driven by Oscar Rosas of Clearlake. Five people held at the Mendocino County Jail are reported to have overdosed on Friday. All five were transported to the hospital, and one of the prisoners, Artemio Ortega Reyes of Ukiah, died of acute drug intoxication. An investigation is underway.
The body of a man pulled from the Russian River on Friday morning has been identified. Members of the Hopland, Little Lake, and Ukiah Valley Fire Service retrieved the body.
