Lawmakers have agreed to pay off $2 billion of Californians’ utilities debt, but haven’t extended the shutoff moratorium past September 30th. It’s estimated the total of unpaid water and energy bills accumulated during the pandemic is about $2.7 billion.
The Fort Bragg City Council unanimously passed a resolution which implements mandatory Stage 2 water conservation restrictions. The city is targeting a 10 to 20 percent mandatory reduction in seasonal water use. Previously, water regulation was voluntary.
