Lake County, along with the rest of the state saw an increase in unemployment in December. TheLakeCountyNews reports the unemployment rate rose from 6.1% in November to 6.9% in December. The jobless rate in December 2022 was 5.4%. The state jobless rate rose from 4.9 to 5.1% for the same time.

Part of the historic Fort Building in Fort Bragg will soon be used as a tribal learning center, working with the city and local tribes. How much of the space will be used is still to be determined. Funding for the center is being sought from the Community Foundation.
The Mendocino Coast Humane Society is expanding its operation to the building next door, which was occupied by the coastal branch of the county animal shelter until last summer. Last week, the Fort Bragg city council approved the use of the building, continuing the work the Humane Society does in the area.
