Mendocino County has a new wood chipper to help support fuels reduction activities in Redwood Valley and throughout the county. The chipper was purchased through a Hazardous Tree Removal grant provided by the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection using California Climate Investments funding.
A controlled burn escaped the permitters and spread into brush and wildland, east of Hopland on Saturday. A man from Clearlake was arrested for attempting to set two homes on fire Fort Bragg on Friday. The first fire caused only minor damage to the exterior of a home. Police finally caught up with the suspect, 47-year-old Robert Fielden, who was in possession of butane torches, methamphetamine, and paraphernalia.
