The Rotary Club’s Share the Warmth clothing drive was a great success. Ten containers of clothing collected were delivered to the Coastal Street Medicine Program on the 18th.

There’s a wind advisory for the Mendocino Coast until noon. Gusty winds of up to 25 mph with 45 mph gusts expected. Power outages may result. Falling tree limbs and blowing debris may occur.

As of Wednesday, the Mendocino County Animal Shelter announced that the shelter is at capacity, and euthanasia of stray dogs is an unfortunate possibility. An accident killed two people mid-evening on Tuesday on Route 20 west of Upper Lake near Witter Springs Road at mile marker 6 in Lake County. Emergency responders reported two fatalities and an unknown number of people with serious injuries. Route 20 was completely closed for a time. An investigation is underway.

A high surf warning continues for Mendocino Coast, Coastal Del Norte, and Southwestern Humboldt counties through this evening. Breaking waves can sweep people off jetties and docks, and create life-threatening surfing conditions. Mariners traversing the bar are urged to exercise extreme caution or stay in port until the threat subsides.

The Eureka man arrested for arson and burglary of a commercial business structure in Ukiah earlier in the year has been found guilty. The Ukiah Daily Journal’s Holiday Fund Drive is just over $3k away from its goal of $100K.  Donations can be dropped off at the Daily Journal office on Talmage Road in Ukiah.

The state’s jobless rate, including that in Lake County, rose slightly in November.  The state rose one-tenth of a percent and in Lake County rose from 5.7% in October to 6.1% in November, the highest since March, which was 6.4.
