News Staff There’s an Excessive Heat Watch in effect for all of Lake County and the Mendocino interior. Dangerously high temperatures are possible, as hot as 110 degrees. The heat is expected to last through Sunday. Everyone should be aware of the possibility of heat sickness. Seniors, kids, and pets should NEVER be left in a vehicle.
There are some partial nighttime street closures scheduled for Ukiah tomorrow and Thursday. Traffic will be diverted to the center lane on East Gobbi Street between South State Street and South Orchard from 8 pm tomorrow night til 6 am Thursday morning for electric utility work. Expect delays.
The Pudding Creek Bridge at the north end of Fort Bragg won’t close overnight this week as scheduled. The contractor in charge of replacing the sewer main line was able to finish the job last week so now night time closure won’t be needed this week. Looking ahead to the end of the week, the National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat weather watch for most of the state, including most of the Mendocino County Interior and Lake County. Dangerously hot conditions with temperatures up to 109 possible from Friday through the weekend.
The Middletown Area Town Hall meets on Thursday at 7 pm and is scheduled to hear an update on the upcoming fire season from CalFire and the Callayomi County Water District. The group will also discuss a cannabis project on Jerusalem Grade.
The Lakeport Planning Commission meets tomorrow evening at 5:30. The main item on the agenda is an application for architectural and design review sought by Lake County Tribal Health for its property at 925 Bevins Court. Approval of that application would allow for the construction of a patio, shade sturcture, restrooms and outdoor kitchen.
Law enforcement was called to Laytonville Elementary School last night after an altercation between about 20 people who confronted a local man, accusing him of sex crimes against an underage resident.
