News Staff Firefighters were able to put down a vegetation fire before it spread near Willits yesterday. The fire was seen in the area of Ridgewood Road just after 1:30 pm. Fire crews and a helicopter were requested to fight the blaze. Crews were able to put down the fire with about five total acres burned.

The Lake County Tribal Health Consortium hosted its annual Missing and Murdered Indigenous Peoples Day event this past Friday in Lakeport’s Xabatin Park. Over 1600 attended the event, meant to memorialize those lost and to raise awareness of the high number of missing and murdered indigenous people each year.

An inmate who walked away from the Parlin Fork Conservation Camp #6 early Sunday morning has been taken back into custody. Donovan R. Bacon, 33 was captured at the Coyote Valley Reservation after a phone tip.
On Friday, officials from the city of Ukiah along with representatives of the Pinoleville Pomo Nation were on hand for a ground breaking ceremony to start construction of the new Mendocino County Courthouse on East Perkins Street. The courthouse project was reactivated in fiscal year 2021-22 and is estimated to be completed in 2027.
