Covelo residents Yvonne, 90, and Gary Niesen, 89, were killed on the night of the 17th when their car drove off Highway 162 into the Eel River while they were driving to Willits. Poor weather initially delayed search efforts. On the 20th, teams found the vehicle and Gary Niesen’s body. Yvonne Niesen’s body was located five miles downriver the next day. The crash is still under investigation.
