The Mayor of Willits surprised the City Council at its meeting last week by announcing that he was resigning due to health issues. Mayor Larry Stransky said upon his doctor’s advice he would step down and turned the council meeting over to the Vice Mayor Matthew Alaniz. Alaniz called for a vote to amend the meeting agenda, then nominated council member Tom Allman for mayor. He was unanimously elected by the council.
