At the first of a series of public hearings on the Mendocino County budget, the meeting quickly turned into calls for accountability and structural reform in how the county manages its money. CEO Darcy Antle, who hosted the meeting, was called on the carpet as part of the problem with the county finances. DA David Eyster was also decried for his attempt at political revenge on Chamise Cubbison in a personally motivated prosecution. Calls for replacing Darci Antle as county CEO and bringing in a neutral restructuring expert to put the county back on track were heard. DA Eyster’s failed prosecution of Cubbison has prompted public outcry that continues to grow, with Eyster’s demand for the consolidation of the auditor/controller and treasurer-tax collector roles and lavish spending habits being cited as part of the county’s problems, including a 4.2 million dollar deficit in the current fiscal year and a projected $17 million shortfall in the next budget cycle.
