New maps from CalFire show that large areas of Ukiah have been reclassified at higher fire risk, raising concerns about the potential impact on development and homeowners. City officials were briefed last Wednesday on the new fire zones, which put most of the west side of Ukiah at very high risk for fire. CalFire hasn’t detailed the full impact of the changes but has said that new construction will be subjected to stricter fire safety requirements in that area. Existing buildings will have a three-year transition period to comply.
