Lakeport City Council Passes Loitering Ordinance

At the last meeting of the Lakeport City Council, the board unanimously passed a new ordinance proposed by Lakeport PD, hoping to cut down on loitering in and around public restrooms. Lakeport PD reports incidences of loitering have risen in the last year and a half. At last month’s meeting, a public hearing on the ordinance was held. There was some public comment regarding whether the ordinance singled out the homeless. Lakeport Police Officers’ Association President Todd Freitas countered that it was simply another tool for officers to use.
