Ukiah Man Arrested Watching Fire He Started

A Ukiah man was arrested midweek while he watched a fire he started. The Mendocino County Sheriff’s officer responded to the 2000 block of the McClure Subdivision Road after hearing fire personnel responding to a vegetation fire. When the sergeant arrived, the fire crew was putting out the fire. A man who was said to be watching the fire was contacted and identified as Edward C. Vikart, 63, of Ukiah. He was arrested on suspicion of arson and possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia. He was booked into the Mendocino County Jail on a $50k bond.
