Federal Civil Lawsuit Filed Against Former Ukiah Police Chief Will Continue

A federal civil lawsuit filed against former Ukiah Police Chief Noble Waidelich will move forward. MendoFever reports San Francisco U.S. District Court judge Araceli Martinez-Olguin denied a request by counsel to dismiss the case, stating top police officials and city administrators knew of past abuse allegations against Waidelich but promoted him in late 2022 to lead the department anyway. The judge dismissed several of the plaintiff’s contentions in the case but also ruled the department and city administrators failed to protect the plaintiff’s rights by putting Waidelich in a supervisory position. The judge gave the plaintiff until August 5th to amend the complaint to meet her rulings.
