The Ukiah City Council last week appointed council member and vice Mayor Josefina Duenas as Mayor for 2024. The vote was 3-2, with the current Mayor Mari Rodin, and council member Susan Sher voting against her appointment, citing a lack of confidence in her ability to fulfill the role. MendoFever reports Duenas countered that as a deaf person and an English-speaking immigrant, she represents those members of the community who are often overlooked. There will be a reception to welcome Mayor Duenas at the Civic Center in Ukiah on December 6.
