Lakeport City Council Appoints Temporary Member

A temporary member of the Lakeport City Council was appointed on Monday night, during the council’s regular meeting.  The LakeCountyNews reports the council appointed George Spurr to fill the seat formerly held by Mireya Turner, who resigned in August.  Spurr previously sat on the council for one term in 2020.  The council voted unanimously to approve Spurr, who was then sworn in and was immediately seated with the four other council members.  There could be two more vacancies on the council soon.  Mireya Turner had already filed to run for a third term on the council when she resigned, so her name will be on the ballot.  If elected, she’ll have to resign from the council; in addition, councilman Mike Green may leave if he is appointed by the governor to the District 4 supervisorial seat vacated by Tina Scott.  The city has begun to seek additional applicants to fill those seats if need be.  Those interested in serving   on the Lakeport City Council are invited to submit a Councilmember Vacancy Application
