A man convicted of sexual assault has filed a motion for a new trial in Lake County Superior Court. Antonio Thomas Magalhaes of Nice was convicted in April of assault with intent to commit sodomy while committing first-degree burglary; sodomy by force; forcible rape; first-degree burglary; rape of an intoxicated person; rape of an unconscious person; and domestic violence involving corporal injury and is facing 38 years to life in prison. Judge Andrew Blum said there was cause to continue the motion hearing to August 15th, when a hearing on the motion for a new trial will be heard and if it’s not granted Magalhaes will be sentenced.
