Lake County Supers Hear Update on Sulphur Bank Mine Superfund Site

The Lake County Board of Supervisors yesterday heard an update on the Sulphur Bank Mine Superfund site cleanup.  The site, located at the Bradley Mining company site continues to pollute lake water, making local fish and groundwater not fit for consumption.  Carl Jessop, EPA Lead manager for the site said the EPA is trying to “fast track’ the cleanup, slated to begin in 2024.  District 2 Supervisor Bruno Sabatier comments that as of 1996, once a site is listed it should be cleaned up in just over 10.5 years, and the Sulphur Bank Mine site has now been listed for 32 years.
