At a meeting of the Clearlake City Council last night, Police Chief Andrew White presented the crime trends for the past year and the department’s performance. He cited the department’s continued dedication to community policing, with a list of activities the department participated in. As to the trends, Calls for service increased by 3%, arrests trended down, by 6%. White said violent crime is at a seven-year low, Property crime has shown a 5% increase, but remains at one of the lowest levels since the city incorporated more than 40 years ago. He said recruitment remains a challenge with very high application rates but few suitable for hire. He said he was proud of the job the staff has done with all the challenges put before them and said Clearlake is a safe city and is becoming a cleaner one.
