Lake County Swaps Land in States First of Its Kind Exchange

Lake County has finalized an exchange that will acquire a new sheriff’s headquarters and a new affordable housing project in Clearlake. The swap is the first of its kind in the state under an executive order made three years ago by the governor that directed state departments to identify and prioritize excess state property and address the state’s affordable housing shortage. According to the Lake County News, the county trades a vacant 15.5-acre lot on 18th Avenue in Clearlake to the state in exchange for the Lakeport Armory Property, which is seven acres on Hoyt Avenue in Lakeport next to the county jail. The 18th Avenue property will see 83 affordable housing units built on the site, which is close to many services and where a new transit hub will be located.
