Ukiah police arrested a Willits man on Monday evening after multiple standoffs. Responding to reports of Robert Bell, 43, shirtless, yelling, and carrying a large knife on North State Street, officers spent over an hour attempting to disarm Bell. Officers deployed “less-lethal” devices and Tasers after Bell advanced on a sergeant and then fled to a nearby parking lot for a second standoff. He was taken into custody following the use of Tasers and arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, brandishing a deadly weapon, resisting arrest, and violating probation. One officer sustained a minor laceration. Bell was transported to a hospital for evaluation.
