Lake County Sewage Spill Update

Since January 11, 2026, a ruptured 16-inch force main has released 2.9 million gallons of sewage, contaminating 357 acres in Lake County. High groundwater is rapidly spreading the contamination, resulting in extremely high coliform and E.coli levels. A town hall is set for 6 p.m. Wednesday, with the location to be announced. Public Health advises residents with private wells in the affected area to temporarily relocate or contact Special Districts for safe water and medical assistance.  Fifty-one private wells are scheduled for or have received sanitization, with water testing resuming on Tuesday. Lake County Special Districts is providing water for households and animals, with showers, laundry, and potable water available at the wastewater treatment plant entrance. Cleanup, monitoring, and mitigation efforts continue.  For more information or assistance, contact the Lake County Special Districts Department.
