Clearlake has declared a local emergency following an estimated 2.5 million-gallon sewage spill from a ruptured 16-inch Lacosan wastewater main on Robin Lane. The spill, prolonged by faulty valves, has contaminated dozens of homes (mostly with private wells), drainage, waterways, Burns Valley Creek, and Clear Lake. Lacosan advises private well owners to use bottled water. The full environmental impact is pending. The city urgedLake County, Lacosan, and the Governor to also declare emergencies for relief, citing a comparison to a 2006 spill of up to 6 million gallons.
