An Oakland man was sentenced to 48 months in state prison for felony identity theft. The operation, discovered in a Ukiah hotel room in January 2025, involved equipment for producing counterfeit cards and checks and information on at least 47 victims, mostly in Sonoma County. James Robert Arias, 42, who admitted to prior identity theft and a Strike conviction, targeted unlocked mailboxes and the “dark web.”
