Bill Baker, beloved former Covelo Fire Chief, died Sunday night in a hit-and-run on Highway 162. Sandra Yocselin Acosta Deloera, 20, struck Baker with her Toyota 4Runner and fled. She was later located at her home by CHP, after a family member reported the crash. Baker, who dedicated his life to fire and ambulance services, had been receiving medical treatment and was reportedly being transported home when the crash occurred. The investigation is ongoing. No charges have been filed yet.
