Hammerhorn Campground, destroyed five years ago by the August Complex fires and further damaged by winter storms, has reopened. Located 18 miles north of Eel River Station in eastern Mendocino County, the campground has been restored through efforts by the Forest Service, California Deer Association, and Patriot Restoration Ops. Crews installed new fire rings, barriers, and picnic tables. Non-potable water is available, but there is no garbage service. The campground will remain open through hunting season, closing in early November.
