Highway 29 was temporarily closed after two Hidden Valley Lake women, Velma Darlene Whitley, 92, and Sharon Gale Dennis, 83, died in a head-on crash on Monday afternoon. The CHP reported that Whitley was driving southbound when she crossed into the opposing lane, colliding with a northbound vehicle driven by Margaret Ann Titus, 58, of Lower Lake, with Dennis as a passenger. Whitley died from her injuries, and Dennis died at the scene. Titus sustained moderate injuries. All three were wearing their seatbelts.
