Preservationists continue to lobby for the Albion River Bridge, a 1944 wooden trestle on Highway 1 and a Mendocino Coast landmark, despite Caltrans stating the bridge is in “poor and deteriorating” condition and plans a $136 million replacement by 2031. However, the Albion Bridge Stewards, formed in 2017, continue to advocate for its preservation, arguing it’s a vital part of Albion’s history and economy, attracting tourists. As it stands now, the bridge’s future is uncertain.
