The California Highway Patrol (CHP) will deploy all officers this Labor Day weekend, from Aug. 29 to Sept. 1, for their annual Holiday Enforcement Period (HEP). This aligns with the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign, aiming to prevent impaired driving. CHP Commissioner Sean Duryee emphasized that officers will be on the road to stop impaired drivers. In past Labor Day weekends, there have been an average of 1,000 DUI arrests and over 30 deaths within CHP jurisdiction. Last year saw 61 fatalities, 21 related to impaired driving, and 1,140 DUI arrests. The CHP encourages reporting suspected impaired drivers by calling 9-1-1.
