Lake County and Cities of Clearlake and Lakeport Adopt State’s New Fire Hazard Map

An ordinance adopting the state’s updated fire hazard severity zone map has been approved by the Lake County Board of Supervisors, as well as by Clearlake and Lakeport, which will significantly increase the high-risk fire acreage in the county. The map is required by the state to be adopted by the end of July and mandates disclosure during real estate transactions, while also imposing stricter building codes, road width regulations, water supply requirements, and defensible space standards for properties in elevated severity zones. Officials are concerned about fire insurance availability and cost for Lake County homeowners.
