Workshop on Ukiah’s Annexation of Land Not What Public Expected

A workshop was held on Tuesday to inform residents that the annexation of unincorporated land did not go as planned. A packed house of around 100 was told from the outset by the city of Ukiah’s outside special counsel that there would not be a question-and-answer session; instead, overviews on specific areas of the project would be given by four different presenters. Once that announcement was made, at least half of the attendees left the workshop. Ultimately, most of the presenters did allow for brief questions from attendees. Some, like Ross Liberty, owner of Factory Pipe and a member of the No Ukiah Annexation grassroots organization said he doesn’t believe the city is offering an unbiased view of the project, and that if annexation is approved, it would prove disastrous given the steady decline in tax revenue predicted for the next decade or so. The next opportunity to learn more about the annexation will be at the Ukiah Planning Commission meeting on the 11th.
