The newly formed Round Valley Prescribed Burn Association held its kickoff burn at the end of May, setting a controlled fire to 55 acres of grass just outside of town. The Covelo Volunteer Fire Department and CalFire identified the airport as the ideal location. The burn had a large attendance, with around 70 people on hand from various firefighting and non-profit organizations.
