The Mendocino National Forest is selling permits for personal-use firewood. Permits are $2 per cord with a minimum purchase of 10 cords, and a maximum of 12 cords per household. Permits can be purchased at Forest Service district offices in Willows, Stonyford, Upper Lake, or Covelo. Firewood collected within Lake and Mendocino counties is subject to state and federal quarantines to limit the spread of the sudden oak death pathogen. Firewood purchased from these counties can only be transported into other Sudden Oak Death quarantine counties. Permits are valid through December 31st.
