A series of crashes caused by an initial deer strike on southbound Highway 101 north of Ukiah early Wednesday morning brought emergency responders to the scene and caused considerable congestion. CHP logs indicated chain reaction crashes near the Highway 20 offramp to the Central Avenue onramp. Units from CHP, Cal Fire, and local tow services responded, with multiple tow trucks dispatched to remove damaged vehicles. Debris was reported in traffic lanes, and at least one vehicle was described as having major damage after crashing through a barrier. EMS transported at least two victims from the scene. The roadway was cleared and traffic flow restored shortly before 10 am.
