The civil case filed by Mendocino County Auditor Chamise Cubbsion has become increasingly acrimonious. In the most recent case, attorneys for the county have asked Judge Ann Moorman for a change of venue, stating the county cannot obtain a fair hearing on the legal questions at issue. Morin Jacob contends Cubbison’s counsel and the local media have turned the proceeding into a sprawling conspiracy, complete with gossip blogs and sensationalized claims. Thus far, Jacob’s San Francisco office has billed the taxpayers at least $200,000 to defend against Cubbison’s legal efforts to win back salary, benefits, and personal damages after the criminal case against her was dismissed. Also, Sarah Pierce, the interim county auditor, has said she will only answer questions in writing. Cubbison says direct conversations between the two are necessary to get her back up to speed.
