The City of Ukiah has announced that Police Chief Cedric Crook will be retiring after 28 years with the department. His replacement, UPD Captain Tom Corning will be sworn in as Chief on Wednesday, so for a time the department will have two chiefs, as Corning shadows Crook. Crook started with the UPD as a reservist in 1997, then going full time in 1998. In 2002, he was honored as Ukiah’s Officer of the Year. Chief Crook’s official retirement date is August 2nd.
